Founded in 1989 in Germany by Murat Bozankaya as an R&D company, Bozankaya continued its activities in Turkey in 2003 with the vision of becoming an innovative company offering the most ideal solutions in terms of investment and operating costs in public transportation.
With the experience, knowledge and know-how it has gained over the years, has become one of the leading brands in the field of transportation technologies by manufacturing environmentally friendly, energy-saving, new generation, sustainable and silent rolling stock and electric buses with 100 percent Turkish engineering. Bozankaya, which started its activities in Turkey with 20 employees, today has 150 R&D engineers and nearly 1400 employees in its R&D Center.
Bozankaya manufactures metro, tram, trambus and electric buses in its production center located on an area of 100,000 m2 in Ankara, Sincan and provides services in many countries around the world with its vehicles whose intellectual property rights are owned by Bozankaya. Bozankaya holds the title of producing Turkey’s first 100% electric bus and continues to design vehicles that meet the needs of the modern era through its R&D and P&D investments. To date, it has allocated a budget of 25 million euros for its R&D activities.
Bozankaya has also designed Turkey’s first low-floor tram and bogie, realized Turkey’s first metro export and produced the first high-tech driverless (GoA4 level) metro. With an investment of 70 million Euros, Bozankaya has the title of Turkey’s largest and most modern rolling stock production facility. The rolling stock paint shop located in Bozankaya’s production facilities is the largest rolling stock paint shop in Europe.
In 2015, Frost & Sullivan, a US-based market research and consulting firm that gives the world’s most prestigious business world awards, named Bozankaya the “Company of The Year in Europe” at its award ceremony.
The trams produced by Bozankaya for Timisoara, Romania, with a range of 70 km on battery power, were awarded by the European Railway Clusters Initiative (ERCI) and earned Bozankaya the title of “Europe’s Most Innovative Company” in 2021.
